Moving and Packing Tips

Sometimes deciding where to start is one of the hardest parts! Get ya where you’re headed faster! Here’s some helpful tips to get you on the right track!

Packing

Begin packing well in advance of your move date. This gives you plenty of time to sort through your belongings and pack systematically.
Make a list of tasks and set deadlines to keep yourself on track. Check out our premade list here!
Go through each room and decide what to keep, donate, sell, or throw away. Moving is a great opportunity to minimize your possessions. Check out our junk removal service above if you need assistance, or send us a if you have any questions!

Pack one room at a time to stay organized. Label each box with the room it belongs to and a brief description of its contents.
Wrap fragile items individually with bubble wrap or packing paper and place them in boxes with cushioning material. Mark these boxes as “Fragile.”

Moving

Update your address with the postal service, banks, insurance companies, and other important institutions.
Arrange for utilities (electricity, water, gas, internet) to be transferred or set up at your new home. Schedule disconnection of services at your old home for the day after your move.
Pack a box with essential items you’ll need immediately after the move, such as toiletries, a change of clothes, important documents, snacks, and basic kitchen items.
Keep important documents, jewelry, and other valuables separate from your other belongings. Consider carrying them with you personally.
Have an overnight bag with clothes, toiletries, and other essentials ready for your first night in the new home.

Other

If you’re hiring professional movers, book them as early as possible, especially if you’re moving during peak season (summer or end of the month).
Collect boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, markers, and labels. Consider using specialized boxes for items like dishes and wardrobes.
Assign a color to each room in your new home and use colored stickers on boxes to indicate which room they belong to.
Include items you’ll need immediately upon arrival, such as toiletries, a change of clothes, basic kitchen items, medications, important documents, and snacks.
Before disconnecting electronics, take photos of the cable setups to make reassembly easier.
